Lisvane Historical Society
Lisvane Historical Society was established in January 2006 with the aim of undertaking research into the history of the village and to preserve current information. The Society’s success will, to a degree, depend on the support residents give in providing documents, photographs and verbal accounts of village life over the years.
Can you help our research? We are trying to find as much information as we can about the men who died in World War One and World War Two and all the people who served in the armed forces during both wars. If you can help, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
World War One
World War Two
We currently have no talks planned, however, we are happy to repeat some of the talks we have previously given to the Historical Society to other local groups. Talks available are: Llanishen Mill & Coed-y-Felin, the Caerphilly Tunnel, People of the Railway, E Turner and Sons, Lisvane during World War 2.
Future meetings will be advertised in the Lisvane LINK.
Recent Talks were
February, March, April 2016 - Lisvane Pubs: The Black Griffin, The Ty Mawr, The Old Cottage and The Pentre Gwilym
January 2016 - 10 years of the Lisvane Historical Society
Last season, there were talks on E. Turner & Sons
The Turner family were responsible for the construction of a series of notable buildings including the City Hall, the Law Courts, the former Glamorgan County Hall and the Technical College (later re-named the Bute Building), Cardiff Royal Infirmary, the General Post Office, the Cardiff Exchange, the Central Free Library, the National Provincial Bank and many more landmark buildings. During this session we gave a slide show of photographs, the majority of which are over 100 years old and are of outstanding quality. Our grateful thanks to Glamorgan Archives for their assistance with this project. The Timeline of Turner buildings may be viewed by clicking Here.
One of the aims of the Society is to build a comprehensive collection of photographs, documents, articles and memories of subjects of relevance to Lisvane for present and future generations to enjoy. If you have an old tale about Lisvane, please let us know. Any information is welcomed and should be forwarded to, Gillian Lawson, 45, Ridgeway, Lisvane, Cardiff CF14 0RS. Tel 029 2075 3868. All information will be scanned into our system and returned.
