The Community

The community spirit of Lisvane is demonstrated by the number, scope and variety of the groups and facilities run and attended by people in the village. The headings shown on the left will link you to these aspects of village life.

The Community Council is an elected body representing the residents of Lisvane on local services and issues and is the "grass roots" organisation at the lowest level of government. All households pay a precept via their Council Tax which pays for the running the Community Council. Click on the name above to learn more about its activities and to find out who your Community Councillors are and how to contact the Council.

The Community Association is a voluntary organisation of Lisvane residents who coordinate, facilitate and provide social and recreational activities for the local community. It has charitable status and is the prime focus for community activities, whether artistic, recreational, fund raising or social. It produces the Lisvane Link magazine which is the primary source of current information on village life. Click on the name above to see the full breadth of activities available.

The Old School complex is owned by the Community and provides venues for many village activities as well as accommodating the Community Library. As part of the on-going development of village facilities, there are plans to upgrade the Old School complex in order to maintain continuity when the Cabin and Annex buildings on the site reach the end of their useful life.

The Memorial Hall is a large, well equipped facility, managed by the Memorial Hall Trustees, providing a venue capable of staging larger scale events for the community. It hosts many of the social, religious and recreational activities of the village.

Rooms in the above venues may be rented at reasonable rates. Click here for more details.

The village has Lisvane Primary School and a number of pre-school groups within its boundary. Click here to these and other educational facilities within the local area.

Religious Organisations of various denominations are supported within the community. Click here for links to their websites.

In order to improve and enjoy the natural environment of the area, "Friends" groups have been set up for the village woodland in Coed y Felin and the parkland at Parc Cefn Onn. In addition, The Graig Protection Society organises regular walks into the countryside.

Lisvane Historical Society is building an archive of historical records and information about the local area and organises regular talks on subjects of local historic interest.
